If the Sonnens Went Bad

Would-be robber shoots himself in foot, gets stabbed, then arrested, police say.

Elizabeth and I had a laugh over that headline today.

“That would happen to us if we went bad,” I said.

Kittys

These beautiful illustrations remind me of books that I would read as a child at my grandparents’ homes. Innocence and trust.

Missing Each Other

This is hard on us all.

We are giving it an honest chance.

We are positive.

We are strong.

We are connected even though we are apart.

Brag Time

I am so very proud of my children. Literally, my chest swells with pride when I think of them.

As I mentioned earlier in the week, the boys have stepped up to the plate once again.

They do what needs to be done.

They do what is best for their family.

They did not learn these things from their father. In fact, he taught them the opposite. They figured it out on their own. They know the value of family. They honor their family. They love their family.

And my daughters, they are spirit and light. They are fighters. They are real women. Like their mother, if you knock them down, they will get right back up.

I am so very blessed.

Truly, no one is more blessed than I am. My children and I have been through numerous challenges, including a trauma of one of our own. Many people would expect me to be displeased with the way my life has proceeded. Not so. Think: do the people who have everything and want for nothing realize the strength that they possess? For that matter, can they really possess strength if they have never been tested?

I am blessed.

My children are my heart.

My children are (along with Kyle, my beloved) the most resilient, strong and faithful people that I know. I cannot adequately describe the pride that I feel for them. It is an honor, and that is no exaggeration, to be walking through this life with them.

Family Pics

Yesterday I posted several photographs onto Facebook from CDs.  It’s been years since we have seen these pics. The girls and I had a great time bantering back and forth on the picture comments. In fact, it’s still going on this morning. :)

I’m confused as to why I have so few pictures of the boys during this period. I’m guessing that it’s because they were ALWAYS off building tree houses, riding bikes and shooting firecrackers! ALWAYS!

I love these kids. :)

Birdbrain

Now I understand where the term birdbrain came from. Naturally, it refers to their tiny little noggins, but today I saw evidence of their lack of understanding. (Don’t get me wrong. I’m crazy about birds!) This morning, three of our cats were staring out the front window in the same direction. I went to see what was mesmerizing them so. On the street, under a tree, an SUV was parked. A robin was bouncing from the edge of the driver’s window to the side-mirror and back again, over and over and over. He was fussing at the robin in the glass. This went on for a half an hour. It’s probably still going on. I pity the owner of the vehicle, because the robin saw fit to use the restroom a few times.

It has occurred to me, though, that while birds may be severely lacking in common sense, they certainly know what’s important. Family. Preservation of the species. And, I like to think,  genuine love for their children. You’ll remember that the SUV was parked under a tree. Several birds nest in that tree each year. I’m guessing that this robin was protecting his nest.

Many Ways to Be Christ-Like

My children and I always watch Jesus Christ Superstar on Easter. Yesterday being Easter, we watched JCS. When it came to the crucifixion scene, I recalled Christ calling on one of his disciples to care for his mother. It occurred to me that both of my sons would do the same thing. They are so protective. They are men of good heart and strong will. I and their sisters are blessed to call them our own.
